What naturally lives on your skin (and that's rather good news)

 

Contrary to popular belief, the skin is not supposed to be sterile. It naturally harbors a complex ecosystem composed of numerous beneficial bacteria and microorganisms. Their role? To protect the skin barrier, maintain hydration, and limit imbalances.

When everything is working properly, this balance is invisible… and odorless. But without washing for several days, some less “friendly” bacteria can take up a little too much space.

Why do odors appear (and it's not perspiration)?

Surprise:  it's not sweat itself that smells bad. Odors appear when certain bacteria break down proteins and fats on the skin's surface. The result: odorous compounds, sometimes persistent.

Without showering for several days, these bacteria multiply more freely, especially in warm and humid areas. Nothing alarming, but clearly noticeable, particularly to those around you.

When the lack of a shower can bother the skin

Beyond odors, poorly cleansed skin can accumulate sebum, pollution, and impurities. In the long term, this can lead to discomfort: clogged pores, less clear skin, and a duller complexion.

But beware:  the opposite extreme is just as problematic. Washing too often, especially with very hot water and harsh products, can weaken the skin.
